Two quotes for “new gutters” can describe completely different jobs. Use this checklist to make sure you’re comparing the same thing.
Gutters
- Size: 5” or 6”? Bigger roofs need 6”.
- Material and gauge: aluminum is standard. Thicker gauge is more dent-resistant.
- Seamless or sectional?
- Hangers: hidden hangers, and how far apart? Closer spacing holds up better under snow.
- Color: included at no extra charge?
Downspouts
- Size: 2”×3” or 3”×4”?
- How many, and where? Are they adding any?
- Extensions included?
Prep and extras
- Removal and haul-away of old gutters?
- Fascia repair: included, priced per board, or “if needed” with no price?
- Drip edge: checked and quoted?
Gutter guards
- Type: micro-mesh, screen, reverse-curve?
- Installed on the gutter or under the shingles?
- Price per foot or flat, and does it include corners and end caps?
Warranty and company
- Workmanship warranty: how long, and in writing?
- Licensed and insured in Pennsylvania? Ask for the HIC number.
- Who does the work: their crew or a subcontractor?
- Will the price hold if you take a week to decide?
Red flags
- “Today only” pricing that disappears if you don’t sign
- No written, itemized quote
- Vague “repair rotted wood as needed” with no price
- No PA HIC number
