Warminster homes and the gutters they need
Much of Warminster was built out in the decades after the Johnsville naval air base arrived, so many homes are split-levels, ranches and twins on their second or third set of gutters. Original 5-inch sectional gutters with spike-and-ferrule hangers are common. They leak at every seam and can’t keep up with today’s heavier downpours. Moving to 6-inch seamless aluminum with hidden hangers is the most common upgrade we do in town.
Local tip: If your Warminster home still has its original gutters, look for small round spike heads along the face. Those are spike-and-ferrule hangers, and they mean the system is decades old. They loosen a little every winter, and replacing the whole run is usually cheaper than chasing them one at a time.
Sizing gutters for Warminster storms
Short, heavy summer downpours are what overwhelm gutters here. Roof area, pitch and valleys decide the size, not habit. On larger and steeper Warminster roofs that usually means 6-inch gutters with 3"×4" downspouts, and extensions that carry water several feet from the foundation.
